I’ve always been a fan of the macabre genre – I began reading books of horror by H.P. Lovecraft and Edgar Allan Poe seeking more and more frightening stories to digest! Stephen King came on the literary scene just as I was seeking. King began with writing short stories in 1967 but being in men’s magazines I rarely came across them. It was with his book Carrie in 1974 that I discovered his skill with horror, and his book The Shining soon followed. All in all King has written over 200 stories including over 50 bestselling horror and fantasy novels. In addition, many of his books have become movies, and King has entered into collaborations for miniseries. King is active in a number of current projects. One is together with Marvel Comics who are publishing a seven-issue, miniseries spinoff of The Dark Tower series called The Gunslinger Born. In addition Joblo.com announced that plans were underway for Lost co-creator J. J. Abrams to do an adaptation of King's epic Dark Tower series. This year two new stories by Stephen will be appearing: "Ayana," in the Fall issue of The Paris Review, and "Mute," in the December issue of Playboy. What are your favorite Stephen King books? Are you looking forward to his current projects? |
